I really didn't know what to expect from this book. Demons and mages? Not another YA novel, right? So, I can't honestly say why I picked this one up.But I'm so glad I did.This was a little rough in places and maybe a little on the predictable side, but the characters are well painted and believable. (My favorite was Luke!)My only real issue is that the two main characters are way too tortured, if that makes any sense."I'm sorry.""But you didn't do anything wrong.""Yes I did.""No you didn't.""I'm still sorry."Note: Not actual quotes, but you get the gist, I hope.Now, with all that said, I am eagerly awaiting the next installment and I'm so glad I chose to read this. I highly recommend this book to folks who want an adventure bordering on extraordinary. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it very much either. The beginning was very promising and I was quite excited to read it, but then it went downhill. I didn't care about the characters (which felt very generic), and while the plot was original enough - minus the 'ordinary girl learns she's got powers she never suspected about' bit which is rapidly getting very old these days - the writing was average at most and there was too much tell rather than show for my taste. It could also do with another edit - there are still mistakes here and there (ex. 'allusive' instead of 'elusive'), and while there are less of them than in the average self-published novel, they are still irritating.
