About book Free-Range Chicken Gardens: How To Create A Beautiful, Chicken-Friendly Yard (2012)
As a new chicken owner and vegetable gardener, this book was a wealth of information. Her information coincides with the abundant research I've already done on breeds, coop building, runs, etc but provides additional information such as diseases, interactions with other animals, etc. that I had not researched yet. After reading this I feel more inclined to let the chicks free range even though I caught one the other day in my fenced garden pecking away at my new leafy greens! I especially liked the author's suggestions for specific plants to grow in one's garden. I never thought or heard about a majority of them. I'll have to look more into it, especially since I currently have a large large where a majority is still just grass. I might have to buy a copy of this book as reference material. This book is worth checking out if only to ooh and aah over the beautiful photos! Fortunately it's also full of helpful information about integrating backyard chickens into your urban home's landscape design to create a beautiful yard that also supports and benefits from having chickens. Anyone considering keeping chickens should read this before they start, but there is great information here that can benefit the experienced backyard poultry farmer as well. I'm excited to know better how to integrate our little flock into the landscape design to make gardening easier (instead of more stressful) and keep the chickens safer, healthier, and happier.

About the only resource on this subject - excellent book. She needs to write one on ducks too.
