Frankie had a horible dream that shook him from his sleep and force him to attack the closet of doom. The illustrations that were also done by Eric Wight are in black and white comic book format. Although it is in comic book format it is also a chapter book. Wight provides the reader with a great sense of humor from page to page. Each apge is filled with busy illustrations that capture which are appealing to the eye.Response: I found Frankie Pickle And The Closet of Doom to be a very fun book to read. I feel that the comic chapters blend very well with the fiction ones. I enjoyed the illustrations that spilled over each page and between the paragraphs. It was just enough to give the reader a visual on what Frankie is imaginaing. Classroom Connection: According to TeachingBooks.net Frankie Pickle And The Closet of Doom can be used in an English Language Arts lesson. It is a great example of comics and graphic novels and would be great if it was incorporated in writing lesson plans. It can be used as an example to show kids how to use their imagination while writing and also how to use pictures to decribe their words. Comic chapter books are a great way for those kids who express themselves with drawings or pictures.. Frankie Pickle is a 530 lexile and appropriate for Grade Levels 1-8. I find this book to be appropriate to be read as a loud for K+ and for independent reading by the end of second grade. In the Mad Treasure Hunt the Moody's are headed to Ocracoke Island for the third annual Pirate Island Treasure Hunt. If they are the first to figure out the five clues to win all sixteen pieces of eight they will when a gold doubloon and a ride on the Queen Ann's Revenge II, a pirate ship! Of course they aren't the only ones trying to win. See if you help Judy and Stink as they solve the puzzles to find the hidden clues, earn the pieces of eight and find the final piece, all while keeping the ten pirate rules.Bottom Line: This is a quick read with color pictures that both guys and girls can enjoy.
