Wow am I behind on my reviews - I read this one at the start of November err 2013, yup I'm so behind that I have to note the year :-p.Solid 3.5 StarsThis is actually a review for both books 2 and 3 together.Interesting fact, when I first picked up book two I only read a couple of chapters and then put it down, it wasn't by any means bad it just didn't initially hold my attention. Usually, when I put a book down/lose interest the odds of me picking that book up again are pretty slim.I'm happy to report that book 2 of Delsol's Stork series was an exception to that rule.I don't know if it is because I decided to pick it up again after a particularly disappointing reading experience, but Delsol's crisp, well constructed and engaging writing was like a breath of fresh air. Her characters are fully formed and believable and her story telling is clever and very well done, I don't think Delsol wastes many of her words or scenes - they all have a point, hooray!All in all I very much enjoyed the Stork series, did it blow me away? No, not compared to some of my favourite books, but it was unarguably good - good (if not great) writing, well formed interesting characters that are actually believable as teenagers and an engaging and original story.I really recommend her and will be keeping an eye out for future works. I didn't really expect much from this series. I read it because it was there on the shelf at the library. It stuck out further than the other books, and my OCD mind wouldn't let me leave it there, so I pushed it back in. But I caught a glimpse of the cover of STORK, and that cover haunted me. Finally, I gave in and read the book. Then I read FROST and FLOCK. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the entire series the whole way through. The plot was complex--Wendy Delsol had thrown up many different problems in the air at once. I would have struggled to juggle them, but she preformed splendidly, with patience and subtlety. I love how she weaved Norse mythology into her plot. Of late, I have read many books about Greek, Roman, or Egyptian mythology, but my knowledge of Norse myth doesn't stretch beyond the movie THOR. I also enjoyed learning about the tale of the Snow Queen. Many authors choose to modernize Cinderella,Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, etc., but Delsol chose a lesser-known tale to resurrect. (though it seems to be returning in popularity, as Disney's movie FROZEN seems loosely based on it)I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys learning a little while they read.
