Great story! The sequence of events is perfectly arranged not to be too overwhelming and to keep you on your toes! I love the concept of the flint heart and how it's not just used to create one big bad guy throughout the story but rather to show a multitude of behavioural changes. The characters are sweet, yet not perfect. The enchanted world is greatly depicted by the artist who did the drawings. Overall a really nice book, would make a great present I think. My son Locke who will be five this November loved this book. He liked the fighting in the book that I thought was a little scary at first but the book gets much tamer around chapter four. The pictures were very eloquently drawn. Locke loved the pictures though he had to use his imagination a little and I had to explain things that were going on in the story to keep him understanding. The flint heart reminded me a little of the lord of the rings because of the plot. Locke didn't like it when people became mean he said. However we loved the story most of the characters were pretty unique and entertaining but, we both thought the hot water bottle really seemed out of place and inconsistent with the setting. It seemed almost surreal like in a Salvidor Dali painting.
This was a fun listen. It is good for a young audience. Teaches the importance of kindness.
