The sisters unite and everything changes! This was an interesting book and I really enjoyed the story. The book itself is long but the development of the characters keeps you reading.Carlene, Magnolia and Darlene are the three main characters the book follows. The interaction of these sisters makes for a great story. Each sister has their own issues they are currently dealing with. How they handle their unique situations and how they interact with each other makes the story charming. The minor characters are also interesting but some of them could have been left out and it would not have hurt the story. I did like the relationships of the sisters and how they develop and change over the course of the book. If some of the less important sections of the story had been cut I would have enjoyed the story even more. ***********GOOD GRIEF!!!! The twins in this book needed a good knock upside the head! I swear they were both whining about something! Carlene about how Darlene took Griff from her, and Darlene about how Carlene got all the attention. I don't know how many times I wanted to throw the book across the room for their behavior! It was on my kindle so that wasn't happening.Nolie, their younger sister was the only one with any sense at all!Angela Hunt has written a great book about forgiveness, moving on, finding peace with the past. These sisters had their own demons to deal with. Carly must find a new way to handle not being able to sing on Broadway, and she does. Darly, has the demon of not being loved by her husband, Griff who died, because she had stole him from her twin Carly; and now she is seeing the Mayor Henry. When Carly arrives all of Darly's fears come back. Nolie was stood up at the altar and has put everything into her garden, her dogs, and making aprons for the people of Peculiar. Then one day Erik, a minister comes to Sycamores because his wife left him, and his church let him go because they didn't think he'd be a good pastor being divorced. He is told about Sycamores and becomes their handyman. There are lots of new beginnings and healed hearts. This is a great read and one to toss in your beach bag for the summer! Don't miss it!!!(less) I don't know. This one felt different than other Angela Hunt works. It was still good. I did it enjoy it. But, I didn't enjoy it as much as her other stuff that I've read. It might have been the mood I was in while reading it. I don't suffer from depression. I suffer from social anxiety and I was in a down moment during the time I read this book, so it could have effected my opinion of the story. I'm willing to give this book a try again in about a year to see if my opinion changes. This is the story of almost 50 year old twin sisters who could not be more different. One was the quiet type who stayed in the family house raising her family. The other was a talented singer who went to Broadway to become a star. Did she become star? Well, no. And now she was faced with a health issue that could put an end to her dreams.Carlene's arrival home does not sit well with her twin sister, Darlene. Darlene has always felt she lived in the shadows of her sister in more ways than one and now her sister was coming home to take over the limelight in Peculiar. The youngest sister, Magnolia more commonly known as Nolie, deals with a tragic relationship from her past possibly having changed her just a bit. She cares for her dogs and gardens on the estate when a man with his own haunted past moves in to help the ladies.I read this book for pure pleasure. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review in any way.
Do You like book Five Miles South Of Peculiar (2012)?
Not Angela Hunt's best, but I really enjoyed the story and the healing of the sisters relationships.
