This was a remarkable series and falls into a comfortable position between the brutal grittiness of Joe Abercrombie's "First Law" trilogy and George R.R. Martin's more pedestrian "Song of Ice and Fire" series. The only failing I found was that the final book felt a bit rushed with minimal attention being paid to Orisian's sister except as a 'Oh yeah, here's what is happening with Anyara.' kind of an after thought. Considering Orisian and Aeyglas' ultimate fate, I felt that more attention needed to be paid to Anyara and the decisions she would have to face. Also, I think more 'air time' could have been devoted to the na'kyrim and their customs, beliefs, and lifestyle. In fact, I believe that with a little more work, this could have gone one more book longer than the three we were given. And, even by this final book I was still having to go back and look at the cast list and maps. Still, while I was not giddy and excited with this series at the beginning, it turned out to be a very good overall. If you're fence-sitting, I highly recommend this one - again, a very nice balance between Abercrombie and Martin. Not a bad series, worthy fantasy books. Not perfect, but worthy reads for fantasy fans. I was a little disappointed in the characters. Some were cool, but there really was no great outstanding hero. I think the author meant that to be Taim, but the real problem was that everything was so bleak and dour. That is understandable, you need conflict and an obstacle to overcome, but the good guys in these books just seemed to have so few victories. I wanted more of a chance to cheer. The ending was not exactly what I expected, but it was done well.
Do You like book Fall Of Thanes (2009)?
I love the way this guy writes. This was an expectedly stark conclusion to the trilogy.

The conclusion to the trilogy. A darkish, correctly-written fantasy.

Far better than expected ending. More bitter than sweet.
