About book Fairytale Interrupted: What JFK Jr. Taught Me About Life, Love, And Loss (2012)
Some moments were deeply sweet but most of them were tacky and irrelevant for me to know so many things about her. But the thing I like the least was how she couldn't move herself from her ego. What I understand is that she really was their dear friend and associate but it was annoying to read some of her memories where she acted like a tick. She is smart and successful woman with a lot of death in her life but in this book she was balancing between the thin line of pompous and likeable. It was a nice insight into the life of JF Kennedy and Carolyn Bessette, poor people, it has been 15 years already. I grew up seeing a young John F. Kennedy Jr. waving goodbye to his father, the president, at his funeral. I saw him grow up into a handsome, sophisticated and polite man. I was struck by the tragedy of his death at a young age. I was interested in reading this book to learn more about JFK Jr. What I liked about the book - It did provide an inside glimpse of how RoseMarie saw JFK Jr. She worked as his personal assistant for 5 years and seemed to have an up close and personal relationship with him and his wife. She included stories that demonstrated his good and bad qualities. She offered a glimpse into what he was really like outside of the public eye. Like all of us, he was not perfect, he had his faults, but he seemed overall like a nice guy. She described in detail the way the press, photographers and fans hounded him and his wife. It helped me appreciate how difficult it would be to live this way. I'm glad I'm just a "regular" person! I would not like to be hounded by the media each day!What I didn't like about the book - RoseMarie spent the majority of the book talking about how loyal she was and how hard she worked to protect JFK Jr.'s privacy and the privacy of his wife, Carolyn. Then, she writes a book exposing intimate details of their lives. I could not help but think, what would JFK Jr. think about this book? What would his sister Caroline and other members of the family think of this book? Why did she have to write it? RoseMarie also seemed to have a huge ego and projected an image of herself as being extremely important and nearly perfect while she exposed the weaknesses of others she worked with, including JFK Jr and his wife. The title of the book includes "What JFK Jr. Taught Me About Life, Love and Loss". However, the author spends very little time talking about the lessons she learned from JFK Jr. She seemed to spend more time talking about how important she was and what he and others learned from her.

Hate myself for getting this from the library and wasting a perfectly good afternoon at the beach reading it. The author spends most of the book telling us how valiantly she defended her boss and his wife's privacy. Right up until the publication of this book I guess. The rest of the book is devoted to the freebies (concert tickets, clothes, hotel upgrades, restaurant reservations) that she gets by dropping JFK jr name. Her friend gets arrested 'why didn't he call me? I work for JFK jr"

I read this to get a better idea of what Carolyn Bessette was like. Michael Bergin's bitter memoir makes her out to be a dysfunctional and emotionally stunted weirdo who communicated with him through a series of cat meows. The Carolyn described by Rosemarie seems like a smart, down to earth person who was fun and likable and caring. Rosemary herself comes off as immature and bratty at times. However, the fact that she makes herself so vulnerable in this book shows great strength.
