About book Fairy Tales From The Brothers Grimm: A New English Version (2012)

This is a marvelous collection of Grimm fairy tales, with a wonderful introduction by Philip Pullman. Each tale is followed by a brief note, but the main focus of this collection is the stories themselves. It's fascinating to see the "original" versions of fairy tales that are familiar from many subsequent versions and distortions. Each tale is swift and spare, and the collection features all the best-known tales (Cinderella, Snow White, Rumplestiltskin, etc.) as well as some that may be new to contemporary readers. You know, it's odd, I found the last volume of His Dark Materials as annoyingly preachy and evangelizing as C.S. Lewis in its way, yet I still take Pullman's name on the cover (granted it's a great cover) as a recommendation to buy. I'm glad I bought this and and it was nice to re-read the Grimms (mostly in the car with a sleeping kid), but I wouldn't call this earth moving. But by all means if you haven't read these stories lately go read them. And Pullman's notes do add value as well.... This sounds like kind of a meh review, but I did enjoy it in the moment.

Do You like book Fairy Tales From The Brothers Grimm: A New English Version (2012)?

Im not really gonna read the entire book at once but Im gonna read each story whenever I want.

There's a reason these tales are timeless... I quite liked Pullman's introduction here too.

Great adaptation. Not suitable for small children.

Not really my cup of tea, but well-written.

Fantastic book.
