This series was recommended to me by a friend and they told me that it was a little "kiddish," so I went in with a mind that it might not be written to the caliber of "The Wheel of Time" or "Harry Potter." I was definitely correct in this thinking for the first three books. I had a really hard time reading them because the dialog between the characters seemed awkward, the descriptions of the surrounding environment was brief and obvious. What I mean by obvious is that in other books I have read a whole page on just the description of the environment and not noticed. However, the fourth book, "Dragon Sanctuary,"really kicks it up a notch. The writing is improved and the adventures are a little more exciting. That may also be my bias because I tend to like books with dragons. I was still a little disappointed in parts of the book, mainly at the end. I felt that some parts were just skimmed over and should have been elaborated on a bit more. However, this could have been done to keep the book short, and progress the story without boring the reader. In the end I really liked this book and wouldn't mind reading it again. It is a shame that the first three were not written to the level of this one. But as I mentioned before this book was written for a younger audience and therefore the dialog and descriptions are simple. The story of Seth and Kendra advance as they both get new skills and more daring. There is the beginning of a romance between Kendra and Gavin. There is new betrayal. The adventure in the book is very good; the plot is fast paced and exciting. I found it mildly annoying that Mull continues to treat his heroine like a helpless female who needs to be protected. The other people on their quest keep trying to shove her into a "safe" place. In reality, they need both her and Seth to accomplish their goal. The traditional view of male and female roles is a bit disappointing. Aside from this very mild annoyance - I enjoyed the book.
