I love Charles de Lint, he is one of my favourite author, but this is an early work, and it shows. It is a classic, classic tale. The good versus evil, the difficult journey, the reluctant hero(ine) who learn she has power but don't want it, The other character who would like to have the power and resent her.The hero who almost turn to the dark side,Only the romance is missing. And the good guys who die, one after the other, to the point where you wonder if there is going to be any one left in the end... Don't like these so much. But it's still a good read. Maybe I am a bit harsh because I expected so much. This was the book that got me interested in his Newford series, but I haven't actually gotten to read that series yet. Mainly because I'm willing to just buy every single Charles de Lint book there is, regardless of even reading the blurb on the book. I just love his work that much. And I'm never disappointed, even with the other book, Woods and Waters Wild, that I didn't get to finish because of the stupid library due date, and the subsequent misplacing of the book within the library (not my normal library, so I haven't had a chance to get back and check on the status of that book). I will be making my own Charles de Lint collection as soon as I can find all the books. :o)
Do You like book Eyes Like Leaves (2009)?
A good book, but not, by any means, my favourite of his.
