About book Extreme Babymouse (2013)

As a kid who goes to school with people carrying all the latest fashion trends and lifestyles its kind of hard not to want to be exactly like everybody else. This graphic novel is original because it demonstrates the art of standing up to peer pressure and listening to your inner voice. Many kids face peer pressure on a day to day basis and thanks to Babymouse they have a way of standing against peer pressure even if that act is as simple as eating a cupcake. In the beginning of the book everyone in the school is going to a ski resort called "Snowy Mountain" because Babymouse hears of the news about Snowy Mountain she because tantalized by the idea of going. Unfortunately for Babymouse her parents were not ready to go on such an abrupt trip so soon, because of that the idea of going becomes more and more desirable to Babymouse only because everyone is going is the true reason she wants to go. She just wants to be like everybody else. She feels this way because as student in school she just wants to be accepted into the "popular crowd." When facing these challenges in school like peer pressure its hard to see the big picture or your true values in life. Thankfully for us Babymouse eventually realizes that she does not have to be accepted by anyone than herself, she understands that you do not have to be like everyone else. That leads to a powerful teaching moment, when knowing that you don't have to be like everyone else you can understand the bigger picture and you can focus on your true values in life. Which is something that takes true practice to do because it is hard not to fall into a line that every else is apart of, but thankfully for us Babymouse shows us that we can change the way we look ourselves and think we are the original us, there is no one else like us. Knowing that you are the only one that can be yourself is a freeing moment, you don't care about how people see you or if you do something will that make you cool or popular to the people that asked you to do it, you only care about you and if you are happy being you, and if you are not happy than re-invent yourself. Because you are a person that plays by your own rules which means you can change them as you go on in life. I love Babymouse! She dreams big and envisions herself as succeeding! The humor is in the exact opposite happening:) Babymouse's mom is sarcastic, which creates adult humor as well. It is a great graphic novel with a short amount of reading. The humor makes it a fun read for any age. My grandma, 88, enjoyed hearing it when we read it with her this weekend. At any rate, I liked that Babymouse was able to snowboard by the end of the book too:)
