About book Extinction Point (2012)

A strange global storm changes everything for those who survive. This is the audio version of the first part of an apocalyptic trilogy. It's based on an interesting concept I won't give away. It is competently written. The narration is good. I enjoyed the story and found it sufficiently compelling to complete the set. There are a few minor rough spots with logic, and a some places where the pace dragged, but--overall--a very engaging story. It was a great selection to listen to during my fitness sessions and commutes. The reviews of others pretty much sum up my thoughts on this. I went into it looking forward to the story; a dystopian tale set in New York CIty with a plucky female lead who is also a newspaper reporter? Let the tales be told! The end result is not so much. I actually had planned on writing a long review on my disappointment with this book but I got a paragraph or so into it and realized that what's wrong with it is so much more involved than what's right with it that I didn't even want to attempt it. I love reading and I'm willing to suspend a LOT of belief for the sake of a good story. But I only finished this one because I hate to leave a book with pages left unread. I should have set it down and backed away quickly in this case.Read the reviews posted here and you can get a good idea of what I'm talking about. I'm stunned that the average is 3.8 but I guess there are those who are more willing to suspend that level of belief than I.
