About book Evviva I Libri! (2013)

I originally pulled this book because it's a nominee for the CLEL Bell Awards (which are awesome, by the way! Check them out if you haven't yet!) Each huge double-paged spread contains either half or all of a pair of book opposites - "Book scary, Book funny/Book rainy, Book sunny". A diverse cast of baby, toddler, and preschool characters accompany the text, with books, of course, bursting off of each page. This short, rhyming book would be great for a baby or toddler time about, of course, BOOKS! I'm a dreadful grandmother - I tend to focus on the older two when I'm thinking of books, and Ivy goes along with it alright so I forget that she'll get more of value from books better suited to her age-group. Of course, Ivy is always so happy to sit on my lap with a book that she'll grab the nearest she can see, including one that I'm reading for myself, and open page after page pointing earnestly to random words. But no, I mustn't lay any of the blame on her! Ivy, aged 3 in one week's time, needs to have books specially for her own interests. So, despite this being a book that I find unexciting, I borrowed it from the library. The illustrations in this book are very cute, and the concept is great - books can be any size and can be read at any time of day or in any weather. But I'm very uncomfortable reading a two-word page with the adjective following the noun. Call me pedantic. Of course, the children don't care. And Ivy loves the book - I shall have to read it to her many more times before it goes back to the library.
