This is a nice memoir and gives people a hint of what to expect if planning a similar lifestyle. It was fun to read about their challenges, expectations and experiences in new places. The title could cause confusion for some, in that it could draw people in that are expecting a 'how to' book and it is not that. This is a memoir of one couple who decided to live life to the fullest and this book chronicles their adventures. As long as you are aware of that when you start reading and you enjoy memoirs and travel stories, you'll love this book. I approached this book with excitement at the kind of real life adventure that this retired couple embarked on. Selling and storing their possessions they take off to travel the world. Looking for a bit of armchair travel I quickly dug in. I tried. I really tried to stick with this book but only made it through the first three legs. I was overwhelmed by the sense of privilege and arrogance. Describing the Mexican people who are servants for the expats the author implies that how fortunate it is that they provide jobs for the locals. Sigh. Finished. Depressed.
Wasn't the guidebook I was hoping it would be, and wasn't engaging travel writing either.
