4-4.5 stars. Loved this story about a small town girl Keri Ann and big time celebrity Jack Eversea. Keri Ann's thoughts and personality were refreshing because she was a sweet girl on the inside, but she was also sarcastic and had enough dignity not to trip and fall all over herself just because she was in the presence of a Hollywood star. Jack definitely had movie star attributes, that easy self-confidence and arrogance, but he was also a deeper character on the inside, someone who wanted privacy and knew that his life was a farce or not under his own control in many ways despite the fame and fortune. Getting to know Jack's history also reinforces that Jack doesn't make decisions lightly even though he doesn't have much independence in the spotlight. I enjoyed their bantering and how they fixed up Keri Ann's house or went out to the beach to hang out, stuff that Jack probably wouldn't normally do in his California life, but was so routine to Keri Ann. Jack teaches Keri Ann just as much about herself as she teaches him about himself. They have great chemistry together except Keri Ann is uncertain about it because she isn't all glamour and glitz and she has nothing to compare to in order to make sense of it. Jack's situation is complicated and he can't promise anything so while he and Keri Ann are having a wonderful time hanging out together during his escape, eventually Jack has to return to his regular life and the question is where does Keri Ann fit into all of that, if he wants her there. I liked how this story could be something that really does happen and that the issues they face are genuine, because Keri Ann is someone who doesn't want to be in the public eye and Jack is someone who has to watch his every move. Finding love should be special and worth keeping, but sometimes there are too many obstacles in the way.
