This was Drake's book - it truly was...there was only a brief mention/appearance by characters from the first book (Odin, Raze Stephen & Alfred),and they did not overshadow what was going on in this story. I really enjoyed this book, good continuing series plot, some suspense, good character development, and a secret reveled about Drake's lineage. I was pleased with the new characters (Toni Robert,,Ocktober, Dominic, the coffeehouse crowd, Christin, Stryker etc), they fit well together and played important roles. I was surprised the werewolves played such a minimal part in the actual story(as they had little time on the pages), even through they were a big part of Stryler's "evil" plot. I find the overall series thematic plot (the chess game) to be a rather cool way to setup the stories in each book, I wish that more info on how the chess game got stared, why, when etc was provided along the way, but even without it the stories hold up well. I also would like to understand more about what is going on between Stephen and Orion, there is some dynamic there that is eluded to but has not really been explained, I'm sure that itself could be a whole story.I'm eagerly awaiting the next 2 books - not sure if they will wrap up the series or if additional books will follow - so I will just have to watch the author's website, and hope that if it does end the series, its a satisfying series ending and not one that leaves you up in the air wanting more. This second installment of the series showed promise in the beginning, somehow I lost interest. The conflict with the antagonist was too convoluted and there were too many additional characters thrown in to really care how they factored into the plot to advance it. I still enjoy the world the author has created and she has definitely piqued my curiosity regarding book three about October. Will probably give it a go...

It was a good book, but I lost interest. REALLY wanted to like it, as I did the first book.
