About book Ernest. Catherine Rayner (2009)

"Ernest, the Moose Who Doesn't Fit" is a perfect book for Early Years Foundation children. Visually this is a very captivating book and one that can be utilised for various different learning outcomes i.e. there are many ways that you could use this in a classroom setting such as getting the children to think of their OWN ending to the story or getting the children to CHANGE the ending of the story. This book could also be very good for KS1; with year 1 keep it simple. You could even go for the art route; they could design a house for the moose to live in as he can't fit in the book and you could give them bits of old cardboard, tissue boxes etc. & others could draw the house on A4 paper. This is quite an innovative book in its format and one I haven't come across before. I think this is a good book to keep in your classroom for an 'at the end of the day' read, or for topic based learning. Ernest is a moose who just wants to fit in, literally. He wants to fit his entire outsized moose-self onto the page of this book. How can this be accomplished? Some creative out-of-the-box thinking and it just might be possible! This book has one of those very large foldout pages so small children will need help being shown how to properly open and refold the pages. Unfortunately this fun-fold feature does make it a book that I would not want to purchase, or recommend for school library circulation.

Do You like book Ernest. Catherine Rayner (2009)?

Poor Ernest! He is too big to fit into the book. A creative friend comes up with a solution. Fun.

Very cute -- another book that uses the book format itself to tell a story. Surprise ending.
