(Buddha) It's been nearly a week and I haven't yet written a review, which probably says something, but still I gave it four stars. Why? This is one of those reviews based more on how much the reviewer likes and respects the subject rather than how well written the book was. Jackson has had a remarkable career, arguably one of the most successful coaching careers in pro sports: he created not one but two different dynasties with multiple repeat titles. I liked the way he dedicated each chapter to the dominant theme of each season, and how he handled with the inevitable issues that arose. I was struck by how successful he was at managing some of the biggest egos in pro sports: interestingly his ego rarely makes an appearance - he's so calm and laid back he almost comes across as weak, a pushover. But ultimately his teams won, so perhaps there is something to be said about the softly, softly approach. His pop summaries of buddhism and Native American ways were insightful to the lay man such as myself, so much so that I've been inspired too look for some of classics he refers to.
