I am just not a fan of romance and that is essentially what this book is, with elements of time travel and historical fiction. It wasn’t bad by any means, but the fantasy and historical fiction aspects, which I did find interesting, did not outweigh the romantic elements. I imagine that for fans of Outlander and A Discovery of Witches and romantic fiction in general, this would be an excellent recommendation. The story can stand alone, but it is evident that the intent is that The River of No Return is the first book in a series. Close to a perfect book! I loved the way the style shifted from full-on Georgette Heyer Regency romance, to tense thriller, to sci-fi. I thought the two main POVs were brilliantly done, too - especially the way the narration for Nick's portions stayed mostly modern regardless of the tone of the personal interactions going on (he's been taught to think like a 21st-century American, after all!). The collision of his various lives, and his attempts to reconcile them, could easily have been tiresome, but instead were very believable and didn't disrupt the action at all. Every character was fascinating, the plot revelations were page-turning, and the only quibble I have is that there is SO MUCH MORE TO FIND OUT and there isn't another full-length book out yet (please let it be "yet").
Do You like book El Río Sin Retorno (2014)?
Issues of race, class, gender, sexuality, all in a 'light' romantic historical story.

I quite enjoyed this version of time-travel. An accidental trick of panic.
