A whole new urban imaginary world to explore! I read her short story in "Carniepunk" and enjoyed hearing about how Melanie got her violin, so decided to dip my toes in other Crossroads novels of hers. This time Melanie is a minor character with the main one being Abby Sinclair. I have now ordered the next 2 Abby Sinclair novels "A Sliver of Shadow" (2) and "A Trace of Moonlight" (3). I haven't been this excited about a fantasy author since encountering Charles De Lint's Newford. This book felt like catching up with old friends. Maybe it was because of so many familiar elements--I have been on an urban fantasy kick lately. We have a bookstore, quirky smart-ass heroine with a painful past to deal with, a bookstore, a mysterious strAnger, more than a few disappearances and an urban fantasy melange of characters from fae, were, vampire and, ahem World of Warcraft. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
