About book El Chef (2014)

Received an ARC through Goodreads. (Thanks!) Highly recommended.Chop Chop is a darkly humorous account of a young man's initial exposure to work in a restaurant kitchen. It is raw and real and gritty. The story is not solely about the kitchen but there is also a touch of the narrator's personal life thrown in (dealings with family and some glimpses of life around his seedy neighborhood in London are thrown in as well.) Just a heads up - if you are offended by vulgar language and dark humor, this may not be for you, however for those that don't mind, this book was excellent. Simon Wroe's debut novel is a quality comedy read. I was laughing out loud at several of the passages -- always a good indication of the humorous content. The characters are well-drawn and believable and the multi-stranded storylines intermingle successfully. This is the sort of book that you want to keep on reading to the end; then you find that the end itself is emotionally moving and does not disappoint. We can only wait for Wroe's follow-up second novel with eager anticipation.
