I usually rely on Brian Keene for a good, old fashioned, gory-spooky fun fest. I felt that he went above and beyond the call of duty this time. Levi Stoltzfus, the former Amish man who still dresses like he's Amish and is a master of powwow and dark magic and knows how to go to other dimensions, is by far one of the most interesting protagonists of this day and age.The story was a lovely tale of potential apocalypse (reminding me a little bit of his novel Darkness on the Edge of Town- my favorite Keene novel until I read this one) that goes to places one would never expect it to upon beginning the book. I especially love that he channeled some of the classic mythology used by Lovecraft and in Supernatural (my favorite tv show) and he did a damn fine job of doing it.If you like to read and you like horror, then picking up A Gathering Of Crows is really a no-brainer. I can't really find anything wrong with it. Keene provides a phenomenal follow up to Ghost Walk with this story focusing entirely on his ex-Amish magus Levi. Levi finds himself trapped in a small town with five unknown supernatural foes. Little does he know that these beings serve one of the Thirteen and have been plaguing mankind for centuries. Even though this book is a sequel, you do not have to have read Ghost Walk to enjoy this book or understand what is going on. If you enjoy horror and interesting protagonists then this book is definitely for you. Although if you want to enjoy the series in order, then please pick up Dark Hollow and Ghost Walk by Keene also.
