About book Duncan (2000)

3.5 Stars. As book two surpassed book one, book 3 surpasses both. More characters are brought into the group, expanding the cast and the story has gotten a little deeper. This one dealing with domestic abuse. We also get a even more of Gabelman's humor which actually has me giggling. Especially with Sid who balances the heavy issues of abuse with levity. There's snark and sweetness. Completely addicted and enjoying the heck out of these stories so far. If you haven't read the other books in this series, don't read this book. I'm not even kidding -- none of the events will make any sense to you. The plot just jumps right into the story as if you already know what's going on. No world building, no character back story -- you are just thrown in the middle and expected to roll with it. Also, the characters are so very generic. Since I hadn't read any of the other books in the series, they all sound very much the same. The only things I've picked up so far is that Sid likes to cook, Nicole is feisty, and Duncan is protective. Every one else kind of blends in the background despite the fact that they are mentioned numerous times. It's such a shame too; I think this would have been an interesting story if given time to develop. I haven't read the whole thing -- not sure that I want to -- but since I have other books to read, for now this book will go back into my "to read" pile. The parts that I've read I'm giving a one star rating. I thought about giving it two, but because of the laziness of the writing, I decided to lower the rating.
