Like the other few books I've reviewed over the past week, this book was 'okay' as well. Granted, I did like it more than the other memoirs, i.e. 'With or Without You' and 'A Million Little Pieces' and that was mainly down to the fact that it wasn't merely centered on the recovery process and things actually happened.What I liked:The overall story was great. I found it very interesting and the story was what kept me turning the pages, unlike the blandness of 'A Million Little Pieces'. I liked how it was set-out, as in it showed kind of 'flashbacks' of the past, as well as giving us an insight into the present. Like with every addiction memoir, I commend the authors for eventually getting over there addictions. (He says he carried on using after the making of the book. I just hope he's clean now.)I'm also very into extreme sports, especially skateboarding, so I went in kind of biased to this book.What I didn't like:I sound picky since the last books I reviewed I've called them 'slow-paced' and now, funnily enough, I'm criticizing this book on being too fast-paced. Everything seemed to happen too fast, which gave off the feeling that he was omitting parts of the story and, overall, it just didn't make it appear that real. For example, he talked to some of the guys in the rehab for like two seconds and they were best friends as well as with the counselor. I know these things may have happened, but to me it seemed like it was a bit too rushed.I also didn't get a feel for many of the characters since there were quite a lot of characters and some were hard to keep track of. Some hardly had any dialogue so I didn't empathize with them enough and others I just didn't empathize with at all. The writing could have been better but I'm not going to comment on it because, of course, the author's main occupation isn't writing. This book was certainly more well written than some of the books I've read, who'd been written by actual 'authors'. [Vain by Amelie Fisher I'm talking about you.] Overall, I'd recommend this book because it did give a great insight into the mind/lifestyle of an addict and it was actually interesting to read. It's a quick read too. I first read this book in high school when I was irrevocably in love with Bam Margera. I loved every second of it and have read it countless times since. I always had a soft spot for Novak and I'm thrilled Bam took him under his wing. The reason this book doesn't get 5 stars is a personal disgust. Novak wrote this book, had a good thing going, was heroin free. . . then now him and Bam are both very obviously on drugs of some sort. Look them up, the "band" they're in. You can't watch them and not shake your head. So disappointed in two people I used to have hung all over my wall.
