About book Dragon's Time Dragonriders Of Pern (2000)
***Spoiler alert***Dragon's Time by Todd & Anne McCaffreyI've been a McCaffrey fan since the 80s and recently reread the entire series. She's one of the few authors I've seen successfully depict a near-Utopian society. That said, I don't think she could have had any input into this awful, awful book. It deviates so ridiculously from the original Pern concept and reads like the worst fanfiction-- not to mention Todd McCaffrey's creepy fixation on polyamorous relationships and teenagers. It's Sister Wives meets Sci-Fi...The plot is so confusing with everyone timing it for a million reasons and resolves little of the conflicts it sets up. Characters are grossly underdeveloped, subplots are nebulous and unnecessary at best, but hey! Everyone gets a dragon in the end! A sick part of me wants to read more of Todd McCaffrey to see if the rest of his work is this bad. Call me a masochist. I stayed confused reading this book (all the time travel and interactions), but also kept reading it. I enjoyed it but should have probably re-read the previous book to brush up on events. I also found myself being confused by several things. 1st the opening scene was never explained and it just left me confused. 2nd what is up with everyone having relations with everyone else and having two husbands and two wives in a relationship together? I like Pern for its storytelling and basically for the dragons. This was a disappointment in a way for me.

Amazing, they string the story together so well you never want it to end.
