Art, Rhymes, Story - It All Comes TogetherYou know, with kids' picture books you hardly ever get the whole package. There can be beautiful or at least interesting illustrations, but strained and practically amateurish writing and story telling. Or you get a great story, but the drawings are either too idiosyncratic or too mannered to engage your youngster. This book is a great find because it really does touch all of the bases. The illustrations are bright and colorful with a vaguely 50's look and a great deal of energy, as well as subtle jokes. The illustrations also perfectly capture the mood of the story and complement and elaborate on the heart of the story. The story is clever and the author packs a lot of excitement and wonder into a few pages. The rhymes are not forced and read naturally, allowing a kid to appreciate the matter of rhyme while still enjoying a clear and crisply told story.I'm not sure if you can ask much more than that from a cheerful kids picture book, and this turned out to be a pleasant and rewarding treat. Please note that I found this book while browsing the local library's Kindle books, and downloaded it for free. I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.
