About book Doug And Carlie (2000)

This was a fun look at southern small town people. The format and writing style were a little different than what I generally read, but still easy and enjoyable. It reads more like a transcript of emails and conversations. Not a lot of background, scene buildup or visual description. Not bad, just different. I did enjoy the characters a lot. A little older, a little wiser, showing that the slower life of small town USA can be for intelligent people. Slow doesn't automatically equal boring. A sentiment I share as I also live in a smaller southern town. I would definitely recommend for an easy look into life and relationships in a small southern town. **I received a free copy as part of a goodreads giveaway** I absolutely love books that are chock full of snappy dialog, "downhome" wisdom, and memorable characters. Although it started out a little slow, I discovered that the author was merely laying a foundation for a relationship between the main characters. If you're turned off by the cover, don't be. "Doug and Carlie" is a wonderful gem that is captivating and heart-warming. In my opinion, it felt real, and it left me feeling hopeful and optimistic about the interesting way that God can lead us to certain people. After having read this, I'm tempted to buy the entire series, sight unseen.Giving this one, 5 Solid stars...
