About book Dlouhý Návrat (2011)

There's part of my life I'll never get back. I was eager to learn about Hungary since it is part off my heritage. I also confess to not knowing much of world war one so I was a little interested in the historical aspect. I was not interested in the detailed miserable conditions and events throughout this poor boys life. This book reminded me of A Farewell to Arms which I didn't like either. the writing was well done for the most part although I did have to re-read passages, specially to derive the meaning of the foreign words. The book read quickly although I had to force myself after the first half. This book deserves only 1.5 stars, it is realistically only a rough draft of something that could have potential after extensive editing. There is no depth to the characters and the descriptions of the war are basically just a laundry list of place names. There are so many run-on sentences that it is difficult to follow the author's train of thought. I'm surprised it was published in its present form.

I loved the narrator's voice and setting. I had never heard of this part of WWI.
