About book Düşlerin Ötesinde (2014)

Quite good. Pleasant. At first glance, it had the feel of an older-style read but it was more of a modern tale. Hard to describe really, and it came to me from a retired patron who reads a lot of Nora Roberts and prefers her books to have less violence and bad language, but didn't read like the kind of thing she prefers. This book is very low on violence but there is some edge to it because an ex-husband is experiencing some difficulty accepting the end of their marriage... and there are some spicy conversations between the main characters. Still, I think she was swayed by the overwhelming feeling of calm that comes from the central core of the book. It made her forget the things that normally cause her to cease reading a book and persevere. I'm glad that I did.You could overthink the concept of Violet, a divorced woman in her late 30s who finally realizes her dream of opening a vintage clothing shop in a very groovy University town, but this book really doesn't. It's possible for this book to become too cute or too much of a gimmick. Each chapter begins with a little description of an item on her shelves but doesn't delve too much into that item and lets the story unfold naturally and in such a way that you almost forget Violet is selling 1960s pillpox hats until she does. It's the core of the story but it's not. She does run her own unusual business but it's not the most important thing about her or the most important thing about the story. It's better than that. I'm not saying I didn't love hearing the little details about a sweet sundress or a pair or delightful shoes but I liked getting to know Violet and her friends even more. You might glance at the cover and think of a prom dress or maybe an unconventional wedding dress and then just pass this book over but you really shouldn't. Romance and female friendships are a part of the book but it's more that core of what Violet's life is about and how she is choosing a life that is important to her. Her life isn't easy and it isn't hard; it's more like just a regular life and that is what made this book so enjoyable to read. She has good days and brutally awful days and sometimes her circumstances are so awful there is no bright side and that can be a life worth reading about. With a splurge of unusual friendships, the possibility of romance, some unusual tattoos and a vintage clothing store all in the same novel; it did make for a very pleasant read. Not the book I thought the patron was suggesting I take home but one that I truly enjoyed and look forward to sharing. The story takes place at a time in the life of Violet when a lot of things are about to change. In a short amount of time, she finds out she may lose the building she lives in and runs her business from, and she meets April and Amithi. They are also at huge crossroads in their own lives. The story alternates between the three characters' views.I really enjoyed the friendships and I loved the stories about all the vintage clothes.
