I will join the minority group with this one. It was not good enough and much too long winded to be such a long book. I enjoyed parts of it but then it plateaued. The characters relationship did not progress enough for me. They were just stagnant through too much of it. It took me months to finish this book. Me! I needed more sexual chemistry, more heat something. I don't need full out historical fiction porn but I do like some hotness peppered throughout. I just wasn't the right person for this type of book. If you enjoy a clean, slightly suspenseful, mysterious historical story you will enjoy this. Like I said it wasn't all bad. So, I've had this book in my library for a while now and just got around to reading it. At just around 1,226 pages on my NOOK HD+, I feel more than half the book could have been cut and condensed to just a few hundred pages with same exact results. I think the author had a wonderful story line with even better characters. The plot was good and it was a page turner, though I could have done without reading about a pet mouse. You people who think 'Pip' is so cute do realize he will not remain a mouse forever right? He will eventually grow and guess into what...it will not be into a cute rat I tell you that much, that's gross and unsanitary....I did enjoy reading about Lucy and Nicholas's characters, I think they complimented each other very well. I liked the mystery element the author added to the book as well. Personally this book was too tame and innocent for me, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. There were few if any grammatical errors. It just dragged and after a while the reader just kind of has to push through it.
