About book Dinner: A Love Story: It All Begins At The Family Table (2012)

This book is for anyone feeling overwhelmed or bored dealing with “What’s for dinner?” It is a well writted interesting book that is part memoir, part recipe and part how-to. I was hooked from the beginning reading about her mom going back to school and her dad making breaded chicken cutlets several nights a week. I related to her developing a dinner ritual as a young adult/newly married person and adjusting it as the family grew. While I am lucky to have decent eaters, keeping dinner varied, healthy and within budget is harder than I thought. As I read this book, there were many times I smiled or nodded at the strategies she suggests. (I think the people on my train were beginning to wonder about me. LOL) There are many recipes I want to try. And there are a few things I have no interest in. Overall, I feel more enabled to keep dinner an enjoyable part of our lives. Dinner, A Love Story is part memoir, part cookbook. In this book Rosenstrach recalls how, as a working mother, she and her husband made dinner a top priority in their family, as they learned to adjust to having kids, then adjusting to one kid who eats most things, and another who eats hardly anything. I follow the Dinner, a Love Story blog and adored whatever article Rosenstrach wrote with her husband for Bon Appetit (when I used to get the magazine). My sister-in-law, Carrie, lent me Rosenstrach's book, knowing that I would likely appreciate it as she also did. I love Rosenstrach's writing style--so easy and friendly (and pragmatic). I have not tried any recipes from the book yet (although I have made a handful from her blog), but I have some marked to try. Mostly, I appreciated how she laid out her game plan of how she got the dinner ritual to work for her family.
