About book Die Erstaunlichen Talente Der Audrey Flowers (2000)

This book is narrated by Audrey (Oddly, Audray) and the tortoise Winnifred. Audrey has many fears (fear of flying is a big one) and is so frank and honest in this book it is funny. Her tortoise Winnifred has been left behind in Oregon while she flies home to Newfoundland for her father's funeral. He was killed by being hit in the head by the trunk of a Christmas tree tied to the roof of a vehicle. That tells you a little about what this book will be like. I read this book as part of the CBC reads bookclub, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Superb. This book has sat on my recommendations list for some time now. I spotted a copy of it in a local second hand bookstore window a few weeks ago and bought it thinking ok, lets give this one a whirl.1/4 of the way into the book I had already elevated the book to the level of one of my lifetime favourites.I will admit I havent quite got my head around all of the nuances of the story, but a second or third read in the years to come will deal with that. I am still sitting here now teasing out a few things in my head.Wonderful characters and quirky clever word play. For me an extremely special book.

Do You like book Die Erstaunlichen Talente Der Audrey Flowers (2000)?

Very odd story, but then so is Oddly Flowers! Simultaneously humorous and full of pathos.
