I was disappointed with this book. The idea of book-nerds having super powers is of course fantastic. Unfortunately, I was able to solve quite a few pieces of the "mystery" well before the characters caught on - and I am rarely able to figure out the secrets in the story earlier than they are revealed. I'm curious if some of the aspects that didn't quite gel for me had to do with reading the UK translation or if this being a first book, there were perhaps areas of the craft that the author needs to further develop. At first I thought this book would be another Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore. But it was definitely an individual work. Antiquarians, evil secret societies, old books, magic powers, good vs. evil, familial strife. What more could a bibloiophile need? I read this book in a day. And I loved it.The character development is pretty good, the story is fast paced and I never lost interest once. This is the type of book that I get cranky when interrupted.
Do You like book Die Bibliothek Der Schatten (2000)?
This book had such and interesting premise, but the story just didn't do it for me overall.

I loved it. One of the most original stories I've read in a long time.

Historien er godt fundet på, men bogen fanger mig ikke rigtigt....
