About book Diary Of A Player: How My Musical Heroes Made A Guitar Man Out Of Me (2011)
I picked this book up from the bargain bin earlier this week. I'm a country music fan and I have seen Brad Paisley live, and, well, I like him…so I thought it would be an enjoyable read. I was a little worried it might be a dry read because it's about his love of the guitar and the guitar players he admires. Well, it was anything but dry! It was interesting, and funny, and touching. I learned some things about Brad's youth and his path to where he is now. I loved his family connection, especially his fond memories of his grandfather. I loved reading his stories of gigs along the way, and I loved reading of his faith and how he has kept himself humble by the people around him. I read the book basically in 2 sittings. It doesn't take long to read but it's a pleasure to read. I found this book a really great read. I've always been a Paisley fan. He was and still is my favorite guitarist, as well as the reason i play today. But to read about him growing up, and to see the people that shaped his life, both in music and spiritually, I respected him and his work so much more now that i know more about him. I also enjoyed the way he wrote it. I felt like he wanted it to be like he personally sat down and explained his stories to you. His wit and skill makes him the best "new" country musician, and defiantly one of the best writers as well as telecaster players of our time. I read it twice (once for a project) and i picked up on a few new things. This was a book i didn't want to put down. I would read this book before bed, then forget way i was in bed the first place! I'm looking forward to see if he'll write any other books. That would be quite interesting.
