Okay so I read a couple of the single issues and thought I wasn't a Dial H fan, but reading the graphic novel was a whole different ball game. It was super interesting reading a bunch of issues at once and having the story of the history of the dials and how they work slowly unravel. This isn't the kind of series you can jump in anywhere and start reading. The best part about this series is that you aren't focused on one super hero with a certain set of powers. Some of the heroes that were dialed were super funny and others were impressive. I think the best part about the books though is that they're focused on two people who you would never imagine to be super heroes. The sweet little old lady and the overweight guy who's health is rapidly declining kind of give hope to us all that maybe we can find dials and become superheroes also. What's this? An interesting, original title in the New 52? A cool idea with funny, creative powers and concepts instead of trashing everyone's childhood favorites just to watch them burn? This is great! Dial H is wish fulfillment at it's best. You dial a hero and you get to be one. You don't get to choose the powers. You do get the personality and memories that go with them. My absolute favorite part is when a racist Native American stereotype is dialed and the protagonist's partner is just like, "Whelp, you'll be staying in then." The villain of the piece is even better. When your powers are everything and anything, of course the villain is the void. Dial H is brilliant, imaginative, and fresh. I cannot recommend it enough to fans of the superhero genre. On a personal note, I feel like maybe I have been more critical of DC than they deserved. The New 52 hit me hard. I went from pulling five or six titles a week to essentially not visiting the comic book shop anymore. I was upset about the erasure of some of my favorite characters and the mess they made of Superboy and Teen Titans, but this is good stuff. Maybe I'll catch up and start reading in real time again. Oh. I see that they've cancelled it after fifteen issues. Swell.
Do You like book Dial H (2012- ) #1 (2000)?
I thought this had potential. But I won't be continuing with the series.
