How did young Sherlock Holmes become the famous master of deduction and reason? In this series approved by the Doyle estate Sherlock learns to be Sherlock by following the advice of his spymaster elder brother Mycroft and studying observation from his new tutor, an American tracker and bounty hunter. He becomes friends with his tutor's tomboy daughter Virginia and a street kid named Matty. Together, they get caught up in an action-packed mystery that could destroy the British Empire. Lots of over the top action and great tips on detecting I would have loved in my Nancy Drew obsessed youth. The storytelling is not the best--things happen too conveniently and escalate too quickly. I'll read book 2 to see if things improve. a great, thrilling tale of young sherlock holmes. i loved this book. the authors way of kepping all the secrets from the main character, sherlock, keeps you holding on till the very last second. the caracterization is mostly of the criminals and young sherlocks friends but you dont get a good picture of sherlock himself. i must congradulate the autor in this marvolous tale of how sherlock came to be. i cant wait to read the next books!
not bad but not good. Didn't like the American mentor. Did like the street child.
