I am by no means a fashionista, but I was introduced to this book from a fashion blog. I enjoyed reading a little history behind some of the more popular fashion trends, and I appreciate that Nina Garcia addresses style as being personal upfront so you go into the book understanding it is truly a guide and not the rule. I would have preferred actual pictures of the items from the guide versus the drawings, but I suppose the drawings emphasized the fun. Overall it was a pretty good guide even though some of the items are not necessarily items an everyday woman would covet. interesting (but not exceptionally unique) concept of having a backbone for one's wardrobe. and Garcia is clear that each woman's 100 is individual to her. I was pleasantly surprised by a few of her 100-- Havaianas & both Converse AND Vans but most of the actual items she lists are by no means shocking. I did like the history Garcia provides for many of the items, and her choices for the classic/iconic (read: expensive) versions; interesting for those of us not entrenched in the fashion world. and she also provides resources for affordable quality versions of almost everything. and the illustrations (by Ruben Toledo): GORGEOUS, AND ABSOLUTELY THE BEST PART OF THE BOOK. If I was rating just the artwork it would be 5 stars. all in all, a pleasant & quick read. except for the poring over the drawings part :)
