About book Demon Ex Machina (2009)

"Demon Ex Machina" is probably one of the most pivotal books in this series. The reason is the demon who has been cohabiting the body with Eric/David has decided to make a power play by attempting to take over. It seems that the only way to keep this from happening is to kill them both with a special knife; that is if Kate can find it.Meanwhile, Stuart is attempting to train at demon killing. Unfortunately, he isn't very good at it resulting in fifteen year old Allie kicking his butt most of the time. Demon after demon attack Kate, family and friends to the point Kate and Allie's secret life must be revealed. One of my favorite villains is back and this time she has brought a little friend along with her. Despite the assistance Kate receives from Eddie, the Vatican, and Laura this time Kate may be over her head. Allie is maturing well all considering and she will have to decide whether to let Mindy in on her secret or lose her friend forever all while hunting demons, keeping up with schoolwork and planning a major birthday party. However, the secret she learns about her father's fate just may send her into a major breakdown. This was a really action packed read with many of the characters facing individual challenges. Even crotchety old Eddie has relationship issues. The only emotionally consistent one is little Timmy. Prior to the ending I found myself really disliking Stuart and to be honest he is still suspect. I will have to see if he will be able to totally redeem himself in future installments. It looks like this will be the last book in the demon hunting mom series, which is a good thing. In this installment, Kate is trying to figure out how to free her ex-husband's Eric's soul which is enmeshed with a powerful demon's. While I really enjoyed the first few books in the series, this one kind of fell flat for me. I just couldn't feel it. I also hated the way Stuart kept running out on Kate every time things got difficult.
