About book Delivering Happiness: A Path To Profits, Passion, And Purpose (2010)
Loved this book! Tony Hsieh wrote it himself instead of using a Ghostwriter which says a lot about his character right there. What he wrote is truly a reflection of the dot com business era. My company went through exactly the same things his company went through except I sold out (selling my soul - so to speak) whereas, Tony chose happiness and business creativity above all else. Truly a man to admire, who listened to his gut instinct and is also a great author! My overall take?Meh.I don't love self-help books and I really don't know how I'm going to feel about business self-help. This was the first book "assigned" for our local women in business book club...I'll be curious to see what others thought.My biggest issue is that Hseih seems to be the sort of person to whom things just come easily, and always have. It's hard to relate when you're not one of those people. He talks about his trials and tribulations - like how hard it was to ask for, and receive, a $6 million loan from a bank.Yeah.That's hard.*eyeroll*When you can talk to me about how hard it is to decide between having phones OR electricity for the next month, how hard it is to face down the barrel of being entirely income-free for over two years, or how hard it is to raise capital when you have NO collateral and NO credit then maybe we have something to talk about. Until then you just sound like another priviledged dot-com, ivy league, you were going to succeed anyway, no bearing on the actual reality of a TRULY small business, millionaire to me. And it makes me want to poke your eyes out with a toothpick.So. I guess this brought up some issues for me.It is a remarkably easy read. So there's something.
