Do You like book Death Of The Liberal Class (2011)?
I have some complaints about Hedges' over-reliance on narrative to tie together a complicated history, but I enjoyed his scathing of the American liberal elite. His depressing (I think pathetic) suggestion that classic totalitarianism will inevitably emerge, and that all we have left is to save our souls by revolting against a sick culture (which we can not defeat) makes me hesitate in giving it four stars. But, what is good is very good, and I thought the weaknesses in Hedges' own approach are themselves worth review and reflection.

Depressing. There is just no other word for it.Hedges argues that the pillars of Liberal Class has been co-opted by the corporate and no longer serve the purpose of providing legitimacy to the democratic state. Using WWI as a starting point, he lays out very well thought out argument that we are in the end stage of liberalism and on fertile ground for extreme right wing populism.

To grim and too true to finish. I've given to this for years.
