About book Dearie: The Remarkable Life Of Julia Child (2012)

I reveled in reading about this woman's fascinating life---she had a bit of a slow start, but then she became quite her own woman. I cannot fathom how she had the energy to keep on working well into her 90s. She truly revolutionized how we think, and create, with food. Now when it's hard to believe that we ever lived without the Food Network, it's good to see how she was at the forefront of food TV. She was a feisty woman of many convictions, but not above compromise and change when she deemed fit. I have requested her autobiography, My Life in France, and it should prove interesting to see how her own words compare with this biographer's. Definitely a worthy read about a worthy woman. LOVED IT. This is a completely captivating and thoroughly enjoyable biography of an utterly fascinating woman who helped change the face of cooking (and eating) in America. Written in a smooth, jovial narrative fashion, this biography depicts Julia as a complex woman who was at a loss for what she wanted to do with her life, but was always willing to try something new if it was an adventure. Her history of work during WWII was fascinating, as was the story of how she came to love cooking, and how she came to master the art of French cuisine. Remarkable, indeed. I can't recommend this book enough.
