About book Deadly Choices: How The Anti-Vaccine Movement Threatens Us All (2010)

Whenever I see people like Barbara Fisher and Jenny McCarthy on TV, my faith in the intelligence of Homo sapiens sapiens breaks down a little. It's tragic that these anti vaccine people have absolutely no idea of how a vaccine works and how much evidence exists pointing towards their safety. McCarthy, Hadley, Fisher etc. have been instrumental in reducing the vaccination rates in North America, and I have no qualms in saying that today they are the biggest enemies of children and science. It does restore my faith in humanity a little to see Fisher's A Shot in the Dark have only 36 reviews, where as this book has 600+. Paul Offit is amazing. He's a brilliant doctor, yet can simplify the science for normal people to understand. I still love The Panic Virus (also an anti anti-vaccine book that I've already reviewed,) but I think some people might like this even better because Offit presents the information in a gentler way. Mnookin (Panic Virus) is hard-hitting and can be a tad condescending, where Offit removes a lot of the emotion from the issue and presents the information from the perspective of science and what is best for society. I think EVERYONE should read this book and realize how serious and dangerous the anti-vaccine movement really is.

Good book about all those anti-vacciners. Tragedy of the Commons all the way around.
