About book Dead City (2012)

I read this aloud to my 10 year old son. He loves Zombies and enjoyed the book. I think it was hard to relate in some places for a 10 year old, but overall the storyline flowed pretty well. It was not filled with the gore you normally see on TV Zombie movies, so was appropriate that way. It does include one curse word that surprised me since this book was chosen for the younger grade levels as a Texas Bluebonnet Collection. The mild curse word was totally and absolutely unnecessary. Dead City by James Ponti uses the cliche zombie genre and transforms it into something much more interesting and unique. This story is about a preteen named Molly who had just discovered that zombies have always been living around humans and she must now control and keep them at peace with her friends as part of being an Omega. Molly isn't exactly the most believable character, she has more skills and brain than the average person. But then again, this book is fiction. Characters don't have to be realistic. Dead City is an amazing book with lots of suspense and plot twists. I highly recommend everyone to read this book if you happen to be in the library. I can't wait to read the sequel.
