About book Dead By Nightfall - Perburuan Terakhir (2013)
I ended up really enjoying the "Dead By" series a lot more than I thought I would after the first book. I now feel compelled to go back and read the previous "Griffin Powell" books, even though they will be a little anti-climactic knowing where we are now. One of the signs of a good book, is not being able to wait to see how things turn out, and the last 2 in this series, especially this one, put me completely in that frame of mind. I really couldn't get to the end soon enough, but for good reasons. The only things that kept this out of the 5-star category for me were that I thought some of the descriptive narratives were a little overdone and rehashed a few too many times, and I thought the ending came on a little too fast. It kind of felt like all of this build-up and oops....maybe I better end this book. I also would have liked a little more Derek and Maleah in this one, but the 2nd book was their story. All-in-all, a very well crafted 3 part story that had all of the elements necessary for fans of the thriller/mystery genre. Good characters and a nice plotline made this worth the time. After reading "Last to Die" by this author, and enjoying it so much, I was eager to read another of her tales. Alas, like everything else, all books, even by the same author, are not always as good. This is one of them. During the weeks of reading this story, I completed two others as well. I had a hard time getting started, for some reason, and then felt let down at the end, and left wanting. The middle was good, and built me up for a fantastic ending, then fizzled out.Ok, maybe I was expecting too much. But after all the teasers running all through the tale, the ending came and went, and I'm think, "is that all there is?" It had a "happy ending," so that I was glad of. I do prefer "happy endings." But after all the buildup, it was just not as good as I was expecting and hoping it to be. I think I wanted to "see" the "bad guys" suffer more than they did, so in my eyes, they got off too easily. A fair story, but if I had read this book first, I probably would not have gone back for a second novel by this author. But because the first one was SO GOOD, I grabbed 3 more, and have 2 more yet to read. I'm crossing my fingers that they are both better than this one was.
