The Dark Lord has fallen to earth and has been cursed to live in the body of a 12 year old boy. Can the Dark Lord or Dirk Lloyd survive among the humans and figure out a way to get home to the Dark Lands? Or is any of this real? Is it just his mind playing tricks on him.The Dark Lord was a fun read. Dirk or the Dark Lord was funny and deliciously evil. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. This book is on the Maine Student Book Award nominee list for 2013-2014. I think the boys will really enjoy it. Since I know the Dark Lord (AKA Dirk Lloyd) will be reading this review, and because I don't want to end up in his "Dungeons of Doom" to be "subjected to the Racks of Pain, and then consigned to the Slave Pits of Never-Ending Toil for all eternity", I better make this a good review.Actually, the book is very clever and very crafty in the way Dirk tells us the story about how he was sent to Earth by his enemy. Reading the trials of a Dark Lord as he sits his way through therapy sessions, makes his way through school, and makes...dare I say it...friends along the way was spellbinding. Hmmm...maybe Dirk put a spell on the book so that the reader would enjoy it.Anyways, this book will definitely find a spot on my classroom bookshelf, I teach 5th grade, to see if others are drawn to the book like the White Beast of Retribution is drawn to the Essence of Evil.(what are you waiting for? Go and read the book!)
