About book Daring Greatly: How The Courage To Be Vulnerable Transforms The Way We Live, Love, Parent, And Lead (2012)
"We love seeing raw truth and openness in other people, but we're afraid to let them see it in us."Seems supremely counterintuitive that being vulnerable is the only way that you can you can really live a full life and connect with others, but you can't argue with her scientific approach to studying the topic of vulnerability. She practices what she preaches - and is vulnerable and open in sharing her own stories. 3.5This was a terrific book with interesting personal examples that helped give context to some of the theories in the book. My biggest problem is that I'm not a big fan of self-help books in general. I feel like I can get the gist of what is going on in an article on the topic or a Ted Talk, and unfortunately I end up getting bored. I am torn though because I know I would end up missing a lot of really great stuff, so I am still glad I read the book. The chapter on parenting was definitely my favorite, mostly because I am right in the thick of it raising a teen, tween, school and preschool age kids. This was another book where when I was reading could see a glimpse of my best self. When I am, "Daring Greatly," I am leaning in and being empathetic. I hope this book will help me to be more aware of the times that I get distracted and too caught up in my own stuff, and be more cognizant about connecting with the people I love as well as acquaintances or even strangers.
