Very interesting memoir. I enjoyed the author's glimpses into his life as a big-city street cop. Also, the book was crisply edited which made for a fast read.No real criticism; the book could have been a bit longer and/or fleshed out a bit, but I understand there is a "sequel" of sorts which will give readers wanting more a chance to have it.Well worth reading, but be warned that it's gritty in spots... Just a number of vignettes - some very edge-of-your-seat, some not so much. It made me think of cops sitting at a table exchanging war stories. One does get a feel for what a cop goes through on the street although Fortier seems to contradict his own personality. In some spots he talks of how edgy and quick to anger he is, then he's the patient listener while the other cops want to charge in with guns blazing. All-in-all the stories kept me interested and were mostly believable. Not a book for the easily offended.
