About book Cruxim (2013)

Intriguing story about an immortal fallen angel known as a Cruxim, who is in love with both a vampire and Sphinx. There were interesting twists as well as predictable ones. This had a love triangle that kept me wanting Amadeo (the Cruxim) to be with Joslyn (vampire) at times; then with Sabine (Sphinx) at others. Cruxim's purpose is to kill vampires which is why the Joslyn relationship is complicated. All in all, a good, fast read with information I hadn't heard about Sphinx and Cruxim. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the trilogy. This was definately a pleasant read. 1.5 Stars. This is not at all what I was expecting. And I give this the half star because the ending was decent. Cox showed that she's not afraid to take chances with her characters and is capable of getting her hands dirty when it comes to recounting villainous acts. That's great. I always have respect for authors who don't mind upsetting their readers in some ways. But unfortunately, it was too little too late. Amedeo was incredibly boring. For everything that he was supposed to be, he showed nothing of it. I was expecting him to be bad ass. I was expecting him to be unrelenting. But he's not. He's far too feminine. Cox needs to write in a more male perspective, she needs to remove the feminine touches from his character. Ame read like a 13 year old girl. The only reason I knew he was male was because you were told so. He didn't feel it.He's also very timid for such a creature as he was supposed to be. He screams and yells and threatens, but ultimately, doesn't do anything at all. This read lacked excitement. A lot of his character traits didn't make sense. I really don't see how he was so able to resist killing the vampires, or why he even would. He's a mess.I found that I really didn't care about where this story went. I actually wanted to give up when Ame reunited briefly with the circus crew. I have no emotional ties to any of the characters. Sure, there were some horrific things taking place, but oddly, there was no emotion in this read. I read it cold. The romance was just disturbing. Really. He wants a girl he's known since she was a child. That's perverted. And he's knowingly using these women, he's knowingly stringing them along. But he doesn't care. Yet, he preaches his love for God, and damns everything that isn't "pure". I found it difficult to swallow his personality, and the shit he was spewing, when his actions were so atrocious. This was certainly not the book for me. I need much more emotion invested to enjoy a book. I need to have much more stimulation. I also need a book to make a little bit of sense. And this just didn't do it.I will not read further.
