Another book on CD for the road trip. We probably would have finished, if we hadn't reached home, although it was moving pretty leisurely through the first fifteen chapters. The country has run out of gas, leaving the Marriss (sp?) parents stranded far away and their resourceful five children on their own to run the family bike shop and deal with life. I must be such a plebe because I thought the 18YO sister should have been working harder, instead of painting a mural on the barn, but presumably that was going to serve its purpose later in the story..?My 11YO probably showed the greatest interest in the book, but I don't know if she'll finish it either. Such a great story. Dewey and his siblings are parent-less because of a gas shortage. His parents are stuck up in the Canadian border because they have no fuel to get them home. Dewey and his siblings are forced to take care of each other and run the "Bike Barn". Wonderful story about family, community, responsibility, hope, morals, and crisis. This story was not my "most favorite ever" but an all around gem of a story.
